My (3) Favorite Writing Tools & How I Use Them
I don’t believe there’s a one-size-fits-all writing process. Some people swear by typewriters, others by voice dictation. Some plot beforehand and some start with only one sentence or idea in mind. Personally, I need tools that keep me grounded in my story while juggling the chaos of parenting, RV life, and that little thing called sleep deprivation. These are the tools that make my writing life smoother and more enjoyable.
Google Drive/Docs
Some people use Microsoft word or other document websites to write, edit, and workshop their stories. Personally, I use Google Drive to store my documents and write. It syncs with all my devices, and I can access it offline when I’m about and about with my kids. But if you use something that you consider “better” for writing, please let me know in the comments!
Canva
I love using Canva for many reasons. I use it to create social media posts. I use it for brainstorming ideas for possible book covers. I’ve used it to make mood boards and character visuals. It’s a fun way for me to take a break from storytelling and just focus on some fun visuals.
When most people think of Pinterest, they picture DIY crafts, wedding inspiration, or recipes. But if you’re a writer, especially a fiction writer, Pinterest can be so much more. It’s like a visual playground for your imagination. These are some ways it helps me:
Setting inspiration
Character “casting”
Fashion styles
Creatures, tech, or magic systems
Aesthetic quotes that match the tone
